Frequently Asked Questions

What is ESOS?

The ESOS (Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme) is an energy assessment scheme required for large organizations in the UK with over 250 employees, turnover exceeding €50 million, and an annual balance sheet totaling over €43 million. The scheme is administered by the Environment Agency, and reporting is mandated every 4 years, with the current deadline set for December 5, 2019.

What is a smart meter?

A smart meter is an advanced electronic device designed to accurately record the consumption of electric energy and then communicate this information to the electricity supplier for the purposes of monitoring and billing. Unlike traditional electric meters, smart meters can record energy usage on an hourly or more frequent basis and transmit this data at least once per day. This real-time data helps both consumers and energy providers make informed decisions about energy usage and distribution.

What are degree days?

A degree day is a measure of heating or cooling used to determine the heating requirements of buildings. It represents a fall of one degree below a specified average outdoor temperature (usually 18°C or 65°F) for one day.

What are the requirements for a meter for tenant recharging?

For billing purposes, only meters of an approved pattern or type should be used. It’s essential to use Ofgem/MID approved meters that comply with current legislation and the standards set by the 1989 Electricity Act. Click here to learn more.

What is a CT ratio?

Current Transformers (CTs) enable the measurement of large loads by reducing the amount of current that passes through the meter to a manageable level. For instance, a CT ratio of 200/5 means that for every 200 amps of current received, only 5 amps are passed through the meter.

What is HH Data?

Half-hourly data is a record of the energy used in every half-hour period of every day. It is a common form of interval energy data collected by a half-hourly meter. This meter records the amount of energy used in the previous half-hour period every half-hour.
